Once upon a time, Brazilian Photographer Sebastião Ribeiro Salgado returned from a traumatizing project in East Africa. By then he decided to take care of their family's cattle ranch in Minas Gerais--which then he remembered as a "lush and lively rainforest", according to Richman-Abdou via MyModernMet.com.
Seeing the once lively rainforest as a barren and sick land, he and his wife Lélia replant the forest. They set up the Instituto Terra in 1998. It is "environmental organization dedicated to the sustainable development of the Valley of the River Doce" wherein they recruited partners and raise funds in order to fulfill the couple's goals: develop and sustain the liveliness of the 1,754-acre and be able to manage a non-profit organization whose objectives are: "restoration of the ecosystem, production of Atlantic Forest seedlings, environmental outreach programs, environmental education and applied scientific research," according to InstitutoTerra.org.
After two decades, it has become a Private Natural Heritage Reserve wherein hundreds of flora and fauna species are living in the once thriving land, according to Richman-Adbou (April 2019).

Reforestation does not only help in providing home for hundreds or thousands of plant and animal species, but it also helps in reducing the long-term effects of climate change and possibly by restoring what Earth was before the era of globalization.
